Creation of promotional materials to increase interest in genealogy.
Working in collaboration with the Alberta Genealogy Society Edmonton Branch, this capstone project involved creating various visual communication materials to promote family history research to a younger audience and support new genealogists. Insights from in-depth research informed the creation of an informational guidebook for new members to the society, a promotional campaign, and social media posts and ads.
I conducted various research methods including interviews, surveys, and a visual analysis to gain an understanding of the target demographic's current perceptions related to family history research.
Key insights from this process include an understanding of the barriers of entry for genealogy, and the importance of framing the subject in a way that highlights the benefits and encourages participation from a younger audience.
Using various patterns and archival imagery, I took a collage-based approach to establish a scrapbook-style system of visuals to be used across the touchpoints.

To support new members of the society, I created a refreshed guidebook containing helpful information including additional resources, membership perks, and a getting started guide. Engaging layouts and clear typography were utilized to bolster interest and prevent confusion.
The project was implemented at the Alberta Genealogy Society Edmonton Branch and was well-received, spearheading additional efforts to attract a younger audience.
